This book describes the origins of early regionalism in the Iberian Peninsula by describing the emergence of Catalonia as a distinct society and kingdom. It provides a political history of the region from the earliest times to 1035. It argues that political and social regionalism in Europe dates back by some two thousand years and that issues raised in the Middle Ages continue to affect modern Spanish politics.
