This volume reflects the contribution of the Ruggles to the development of national accounts. Divided into three parts, it covers: the evolution of national accounting; the US National Accounts; and the UN system of National Accounts.

This work on pricing systems, indexes and price behaviour states and explains theoretical debates on the issues and also brings to bear empirical data. The essays in this book were written between 1940 and 1990 - almost all of them are relevant to issues of importance in 2000.

These essays represent pioneering work by Nancy and Richard Ruggles on both the integration of micro and macro accounting data and the development of microdata which have wide-ranging implications for modern theories of savings and investment.
