Jointly commissioned by The Vaughan Williams Charitable Trust and Oxford University Press, 'A Road All Paved with Stars' is a single-movement orchestral work incorporating the finest music of Vaughan Williams's opera The Poisoned Kiss. Using material from the most memorable songs and sections, including 'Blue larkspur in a garden', 'Love breaks all rules', and of course the 'Kiss' climax and its aftermath, Adrian Williams has created an orchestral synthesis befitting the composer's own musical vision.

Vaughan Williams's 6th Symphony was composed immediately after the Second World War and its dramatic and at times violent musical language was long felt to be a comment on that conflict (though the composer denied it had any programmatic intent). Its power and invention were immediately recognized and it has remained part of the concert repertoire ever since. For this newly engraved edition, editor David Lloyd-Jones has consulted all extant sources and materials to create a score matching the composer's intentions. Fully compatible orchestral parts are available on hire.

This is the first publication of Vaughan Williams's earliest substantial work for orchestra, composed 1897-8 and premiered in April 1901. This attractive work already shows evidence of the composer's emerging musical style and sure grasp of orchestral techniques. Its five movements display much variety and sense of overall architecture, with a sombre opening Prelude, a fleet-footed Scherzo, a graceful Intermezzo and Trio, a delicate Romance, and a boisterous Finale. This new edition has been carefully prepared from the original manuscript by Julian Rushton and comes with full textual...

Reduction for tuba and piano of the Concerto for Bass Tuba and Orchestra, composed in 1953-4 to mark the 50th anniversary of the formation of the LSO and written for the orchestra's principal tuba player, Philip Catelinet. It was the first major concerto to be written for the instrument, and remains today the outstanding work of its kind. The concerto has three short movements lasting around thirteen minutes, and the central movement, Romanza, is remarkable for its outpouring of sustained, lyrical melody. This new edition is based on all extant sources and contains full textual notes and...
