Adam is a terrible gambler. He feels the lure of the craps table, but he has horrible luck. The bright lights, crowds, and noise of Las Vegas stop him from being able to concentrate on the game. It looks like Adam is destined to become just another failed gambler-the kind that Las Vegas chews up and spits out.

He is about to call it quits on the whole endeavor when he meets J.C. Silver. The mysterious J.C. promises him that there is an art to gambling that he has yet to learn. J.C. takes him into the desert to teach him to see gambling from a different perspective.
