English summary: Based on a comprehensive analysis of the sources, this book shows both theory and practice of the legal position of the research personnel of the University of Vienna from 1848 to 1938. It deals among others with questions of salary and fees, anti-Semitism in academia, networks within the university and the habilitation of women. Especially disciplinary law, a neglected field of study, is examined extensively.
