Founded in 1966, Genesee Community College (GCC) is the product of a grassroots movement that culminated in a public referendum supporting the creation of a community college. The resulting institution has exceeded the most optimistic predictions of its early proponents. From its beginning in a converted department store with 367 students, GCC, part of the State University of New York, has grown to over 7,000 students studying in more than 60 different programs.
