During the Lewis and Clark expedition along the Missouri River, the famed explorers named a tributary in honor of the secretary of war, Henry Dearborn. Today, Montana State Highway 287 traverses the Dearborn River without much ceremony. The ravages of time have consumed a once thriving settlement, except for its lone cemetery.
