Mike is a lonely boy who stutters. When the neighborhood bullies taunt him and are about to hurt him again, a stray dog intervenes and scares the boys away. Mike and Scrag become fast friends and discover that Scrag has a special ability that they must keep secret. When the two of them encounter a disastrous situation that is rapidly putting others in peril, they must think fast. What should they do? If they try to help, they could die. If they don't, then others may perish.
