Stapleton Tench Eachus was born in Stafford in 1889 and lived on Marston Road. In 1916 Stapleton was sent to France and over the next 3 years, he wrote in tiny notepads a set of 15 diaries about his adventures in the Great War. These diaries contain over 160,000 words. He was educated at St Austin's Catholic School, Garden Street Stafford. After leaving school Stapleton joined the post office where he worked until 1910, he then enlisted with the South Staffordshire Regiment before moving to the Warwickshire Yeomanry.
