This novel follows the life of a Scot (who is forced to immigrate to America) during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In particular, the book focuses upon the little known history of the American southeast, up to and including the Battle of New Orleans. By chronicling Jasper's life, the reader is able to make connections with other major events surrounding the founding of the United States.
