"Remembrance" for solo lever or pedal harp is a collection of hymns chosen specifically to instill a sense of peace. These selections are appropriate for memorial services, and any service where instilling peace and hope are the goal. The ice covered Europa is one of the principle moons of Jupiter. The sound world, which is meant to evoke this frigid environment, is created by using the high registers of both the clarinet and piano and by using square, metrical, brittle rhythms. In the first two movements, motives, and sometimes entire sections, are repeated in retrograde or inversion to further enhance this image of reflective ice. Meditation on a Fallen Leaf is a musical expression of rebirth. The piece is based on two themes which come together in the final section, the form being A B AB. Sweeping arpeggios in the harp at the opening suggest gusts of wind. The first theme is presented in an unstable, colorful, asymmetrical musical language, much like the aesthetics of Fall. The theme is presented in fragments at first, evolving into its entirety. The B section presents the second theme using delicate, steady rhythmic ostinati in the harp.
