Sulfide rich soils are soils that contain elevated amount of iron sulfide minerals. This type of soil can produce strong sulfuric acid when drained, excavated or exposed to oxygen. The acidification might lead to serious problems such as toxic metal release, acid drainage contamination and corrosion of metallic and concrete structures.
