Oliver finds through his differences he can still belong to a family. He also discovers that he has a very important destiny. As a grandparent of foster kids (now adopted) I had the privilege of 'baby sitting' them over a few years. They too had to adjust and it was the love of their foster parents (and grand parents) that helped them through their trauma and identity issues.
