Two Carmelite priests from Germany came to the United States of America during its Civil War to plant their religious Order on the North American continent. This book records the early years of struggle to build a foundation upon which a province could be built. By 1900, what had started as the dream of two pioneering Carmelites to found the Order in America had become the lived vision of 35 priests, 21 brothers, 20 clerics, 2 novices and 10 scholastics. Today the province numbers 180 members with foundations in five countries.
