Biosorption technique is followed utilizing cost effective and highly efficient biosorbent i.e. sugarcane bagasse for the treatment of wastewater contaminated with vinyl sulfone reactive blue 21 dye. Adsorption capacity of sugarcane bagasse is enhanced by chemical pretreatment with hydrochloric acid. Optimization of adsorption parameters is carried out resulting in more than 90% dye removal.

During the study, existing practices related to bio-medical waste management were examined based on intensive interviews, field-visits, and questionnaire. Field-visit includes observation of current practices of waste management, waste sampling, waste characterization and interviews to the staff to check reliability of provided information. Overall waste handling and management practices were good in the hospital. Staff nurses and ward sanitary staff were aware of hazards from infectious waste.
