Growing up in the rough streets of Newark, New Jersey wasn't easy. Amir was raised by a single mother and determined to someday make it out of Newark. A star athlete at Malcolm X Shabazz high school in football, basketball and track, Amir knew that sports would be his ticket out. As a stand out football player Amir received a full athletic scholarship to the University of Minnesota.
