There are dark recesses where something lurks which generate real fear; something that the mind becomes aware and the subconscious generates terror. In these crannies anything is possible: monsters can crawl out from any crevice, growing unrestricted and unfettered. Behind every closed door there may be unexpected horrors. Macabre creatures can jump out from any place and time; the unexpected occurring without warning; terrifying dangers exist everywhere. These monsters may be intelligent or mindless beasts. A super-volcano explodes ... a massive asteroid hurtles on a collision course with the Earth: when such unexpected events happen, a disaster has occurred. There is no way such events can be predicted, or even anticipated. In many instances, there may be signs of pending problems; however, in the end the only hindsight is perfect. Some of the worst outcomes are derived by not thinking appropriately. In a world where everything appears going well, a feeling of security may be entirely false. The unexpected has a propensity to jump out of the shadows and scare us at the least opportune time....
