This story gets underway at the turn of the century. Jean Baptiste, a market hunter and North Carolina native lives with his wife, Jarilyn, and his son Jase on the shores of Albemarle Sound following a way of life not regulated by any clock, but rather by the seasons, plus time and tides. It follows their lives until a tragic accident sounds the death knell for the way of life that has sustained generations of the Baptiste clan.
