Angel is the caretaker of a way station to heaven. The guardians that prepare the girls for their final journey live in the trees of the nearby peach orchard. Everything is peaceful until a girl named Hope is found stranded at Angel's Field because her guardian has been abducted. It is up to Angel and Cyrus a woodsmen and keeper of the orchard to recover her. Joined by Carpenter from a way station for young boys called 'The Swing Zone', the three leave their peaceful valley and set off towards the river.
