Based on the surrealist game of the Exquisite Corpse, "Beauty and the Beast" was created in an artistic version of telephone. One artist started the story rolling by drawing the first page. Then the final panel of that page was passed onto the next illustrator who continued the story based on just the information in that single panel. After that page was drawn, the final panel was passed to a third illustrator, and so on.
