Adventurous Frank Waskey was 22 when he sailed to Alaska in 1898 in search of gold and struck it rich several times in the Nome area, while enduring many hardships, disappointments and risks. I was born on a very cold winter night in a crude pioneer log cabin just two months after Dad quickly build it in 1930 on the shore of a big lake in an isolated part of Alaska. Then I grew up in this beautifully rugged, but often difficult, land; and gained that "feminine as a rusty fishhook" reputation by doing many man-type jobs.
