This is the story of the Davies family who lived and farmed in the mountains surrounding the historic Welsh town of Machynlleth. This book covers the family from their beginnings in the early 1700s until 1966. Although principally covering the Caeadda family, it also includes many other farms in the area where members of the family once lived and worked. It includes the ups and downs of many generations and more specifically covers a golden generation in the family from the late Victorian era to the pre World War II era.

Notably the family contribution to education was extensive in the areas where they lived and worked. This book chronicles the story of the Allcroft family. It starts in late 1700s Worcester, and sees the rise of the family as elite glovers running the famed Dent, Allcroft & Co. In the 1860s John Derby Allcroft purchased the historic Stokesay Castle and created the Stokesay Court Estate, building himself a massive new family home in rural Onibury. Subsequent generations dominated south Shropshire. The last of the family was Lady Jewell Magnus-Allcroft, the wife of celebrated biographer Philip Magnus.
