Thomas Jefferson Fields was proud of his Cherokee heritage. He married Alta Hutchison in 1907 and together they had ten children. He lost his sight but that didn't hamper him at all. He loved to play the harmonica and tell stories to his grandchildren. He was known to many as Papa Fields, and Mama Fields would often write down the stories and poems that Papa would tell.
