Hurricane Road is the first novel in the series of that name. It's a story of Cuba, and the Florida frontier, during the years of the second Cuban insurrection, and the Spanish American War. Cuba at the turn of the century was a developed colony of Spain, with a mature culture. Florida was rough and raw, with little development in the southern half of the State, and it was a wild and often dangerous place.
