An autobiographical account of a young girl's life from 1930 to 1989, covering her time in Germany during Hitler's rise to power, and subsequently time in both pre and post-war Paris, moving eventually to London, where she settled, trained as a teacher, and met her husband George, and now considers her home.Since retiring she has written several books, including this one in German: "Frankfurt-meine erste Heimat" which she took to schools for reading and discussion in Germany.

In her second collection of short stories, the author has drawn fictional portraits of the interesting people she has met during her eventful life. With the passage of time and experience, she has gaine insight into the motives and actions of her protagonists, which before had escaped her.
