Calisto courts Melibea but she rejects him. His servant advices him to use the matchmaker Celestina. She bewitches the girl and arranges a meeting for which she is handsomely paid. When his servants claim their part and she refuses they kill her. In turn they are executed for this crime. In a nightly seduction Calisto robs Melibea of her virginity; when he leave he falls from the ladder and dies. Melibea kills herself by jumping from the tower of her father's house.
