The seed for the Orange Dave poems was planted at the 2004 Centrum Port Townsend Writers' Conference. Three years later, after meeting my family for the first time, my partner Michael Hanner wrote the first Orange Dave poem, "Family." I wrote some sixty Orange Dave poems over the next few years. He became an obsession and a friend. I hope you like him.
