Aegidius Hunnius (1550-1603) was among the most significant of the Lutheran theologians of the early years of the Age of Lutheran Orthodoxy (1580-1713). From 1576 to 1592, Hunnius served on the theological faculty of the University of Marburg and then joined the faculty of the University of Wittenberg in 1592, helping to restore Lutheran teaching and practice in Saxony during the reign of Duke Friedrich Wilhelm I.
It was during his years in Marburg that Hunnius completed his sermons on the Small Catechism, to which his twelve sermons on "The Christian Table of Duties" were appended....

Nicolaus Hunnius (1585-1643) was one of the most significant theologians of the Age of Lutheran Orthodoxy. Hunnius was a professor of theology and philosophy at the University of Wittenberg by the age of 24. He eventually became the superintendent (bishop) of Lubeck, where he led the clergy in an effort to defend and restore the Church in that city.

Johannes Bugenhagen (1485-1558) fulfilled a central role in the Lutheran Reformation. In addition to serving as 'bishop' to Martin Luther (Bugenhagen was the parish pastor of St. Mary's Church and thus was Luther's senior, and later served as Superintendent of Electoral Saxony), Bugenhagen was the architect of the reforms undertaken throughout northern Germany and Denmark.
