Rika is on a walking holiday in Scotland when she takes shelter from a storm in a lodge by a loch. The family welcome her and she meets the laird of the lodge, finds him very attractive. The Laird's lady friend from London puts a damper on the developing relationship and Rika flees back to London and her career as a painter. A visit of the Laird to London means that they will meet again.

Susan wakes from a coma to find herself in America with a husband, who doesn't believe a word she tells him. Then his old girlfriend appears on the scene and Susan just can't cope any more. Fleeing back to England, Susan's life continues to unravel, then just as it starts to recover, her husband returns to the scene to claim his bride.
