Die textgenetische Edition umfasst 13 Gedichte Gottfried Benns aus den Jahren 1935-1953. Die Auswahl stellt Gedichte zum Denkmotiv der -Verwandlung- zusammen und erschliet deren Entstehung durch eine diplomatische Ausgabe mit Faksimiles, Kommentar und Hinweisen zu den von Benn verwendeten Textquellen. Die Edition bietet neben einem neuartigen Zugang zur Arbeitsweise Benns korrigierte Entzifferungen, unbekannte Entwurftexte, Drucke und Quellen.
