I stepped out the front door and was instantly unsafe. I looked up and down the street for any sign of trouble. Not seeing any, I proceeded to the truck and raced off. Just how much credence do we place into the safety of one's home? Used to be our homes were sanctuaries from the rest of the world. There we would go to escape the rat race and relax, alone, or with the neighbors. So then the neighborhoods were sort of insulated also. You could walk the dogs, mow the lawns, and know where your kids are at, with relative security. As the world got smaller, we grew farther apart. We melded into...

Conclusion is never the end. Oh, it may tie up some dangling threads here and there, but there are always more questions than answers after it's done. We conclude wars, trails, marriages, races, ball games, even life. What is left over but the intangibles, the roads not taken? I suppose that's what makes us so fascinating as a species...the inability to conclude with any definite end...and the audacity to ask, "What If?

Oral Tradition. Stories passed through generations with only slight embellishment, or change. They sometimes take on lives of their own, until told so many times they are almost believable. Most have the form of creation myths and precautionary yarns attempting to explain how we all got here and how to not get eaten and grow old. I, on the other hand, have a bad memory and a philosophical heart...so, these are not them.

Remember how we all couldn't wait to get to eighteen? Twenty-one? It seemed like time stood still then. We all had our own reasons for wanting it, voting, college, drinking. At some point age meant becoming an adult, albeit some kids got a head start, getting emancipated, having kids of their own, running away. Then when we hit the magic number, time went into overdrive and the years peeled away and there was no stopping it But then...then the unfairness of it all, seeing today's teenagers run amok with their freedoms. I suppose that's the price to be paid for wanting to be so...

We never really know how much time we have. Our end may come suddenly or be long and drawn out. Most of us spend that time in a straight line, going from point "A" to point "B" simply because it's easier to get there. I often think that taking the path of least resistance makes us mundane and bored. Eccentricity has its merits. To be disarrayed, disjointed may seem unproductive, but I believe that our most creative, successful people are a bit flighty. That being said, in this electronic age those who have used their creativity to invent such conveniences have also lent to the disinvestment...

Isn't it interesting that sometimes change happens very quickly, at times before you even know it has taken place. Or, very slowly, here we can almost see metamorphosis take place. However it comes, change is never easy. Whether it be moving to a new locale, the death of a loved one, or a life-changing event it's always a shock to the system and some people never really recover their balance. We don't care for it, but change is inevitable and frustrating to our sentient ways. Still, without it we'd die off. We, like all living things have learned to adapt to our environments, however...

It seems that history doesn't follow the ground. It ebbs and wanes with the times (or against). With these cycles we have those that live it and they come in all flavors, right, left, middle, radical, conservation...etc. We certainly have a lot of one-issue worriers. The problem is who really knows the guts of an issue, if you barely know the facts? Clarity comes at a steep price and whoever is willing to pay the price is usually the one keeping the secret. I only hope that we come to our senses and kill the two-party system once-and-for-all. We live in an age where information is constantly...

You meet some people in life and have constant contact with them, even develop relationships with but rarely see them in the flesh. Modern communications allows even more distance between people. Even one's co-workers pass in the hall, IM each other, and otherwise keep to themselves. May be the best way to stay relevant is to become noticed or popular above the rest. I wouldn't mind the notoriety, to be "known" for something. It's kind of a leap for an introvert, but then again, looks at all the relationship work you don't have to do One day I'll see my name in lights, or win the lottery....
