Aleksandr Pyetrovic was at University in St.Petersburg when called home due to a family tragedy. Unable to return to University he is forced to flee Russia ahead of conscription in the Tsar's army at the urging of his father. His facility for languages suggests the United States of America as a destination and he sails in steerage to get there only to be turned back to Liverpool.
