This book deals with the taxonomical studies including morphology, leaf epidermal anatomy and pollen and palynology of the grasses (monocots) of Thar desert of Sind, Pakistan. The study has conducted on 39 species belonging to 56 genera of 8 tribes in 4 subfamilies of Poaceae from District Tharparkar. The objective of the study was to identify and classify the plants on the basis of systematic studies and to study the intraspecific, intrageneric and intergeneric relationships among species of different genera and tribes.

This work has two parts one is taxonomic studies and the second is phytochemical screening. The work was carried out to study the morpho-anatomical and palynological characters in order to advance knowledge on these medicinal plants and on pharmacognostic quality control. The plant material was fixed and prepared according to light microscopy (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
