Mast cells are mobile granule-containing secretory cells that are distributed preferentially about the microvascular endothelium in oral mucosa and dental pulp. They possess many properties that enable them to participate in a diverse range of biological activities. These cells secrete wide range of pro-inflammatory, immune-modulatory and mitogenic cytokines. Recently, apart from their roles in the maintenance of homeostasis and in inflammation, the association of mast cells with various tumors has been described.

Ameloblastic fibroma is a mixed intraosseous & true biphasic tumour consisting of proliferating odontogenic epithelium in ectomesenchyme having two sub types: neoplasm and a hamartomatous lesion. Histopathologically, it reveals epithelial strands and islands resembling the embryonic enamel organ, within the cellular and primitive connective tissue stroma mimicking the dental papilla. It is well encapsulated and shows an innocuous benign behavior. This book emphasizes the most current concept of pathogenesis & management making diagnosis easier.

Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) also termed epidermoid carcinoma, is a malignant neoplasm that is derived from or exhibits the morphologic features of oral squamous epithelium. In India, the prevalence of oral cancer is up to four times higher than in other countries. It is most common cancer and approximately 94 percent of all oral malignancies are squamous cell carcinoma. The higher incidence of cases is linked to the high prevalence of a unique smokeless tobacco habit in which the tobacco, typically mixed with areca (betel) nut, slaked lime and spices, known as quid or paan and is...
