JERRY JACOBS, Chairman of the INTERFAITH COMMITTEE OF REMBRANCE, commissioned me to compose the music and libretto to IN MEMORIAM: A CELEBRATION for the fourth annual HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL CONCERT. The world premiered was on Saturday, November 13, 1993 before an audience of four thousand at Saint John the Divine in New York. The triumphant success of the premiere immediately went into the "pipeline," and a second concert was scheduled for May 28, 1995, in Skokie, Illinois before an audience of fourteen hundred Holocaust Survivors. Cirque de la Lune is an eclectic evening of music, dance and song, a concert oratorio. This is a chamber music version for Bb Trumpet, Tenor Saxophone (doubling on Alto Flute), Baritone Saxophone (doubling on Alto Flute and Bb Clarinet, 2 Electric Guitars (1 doubling on Acoustic), Five String Electric Bass, Drum Set, Keyboards: Piano & various keyboard synthesis, Soprano, Trio (Soprano, Mezzo & Alto), Baritone, Tenor and Boy Soprano. The vocal styles range from Rock/Pop to Art Song to Musical Theater.

In contemplation we are all capable of anything ... If we freeze these moments we find ourselves enacting upon every possibility while in the process of deciding whether to fulfill or simply muse. Thus, in this frozen state everything is real. When one considers that we can dwell in these thoughts for as long as we wish, and the enactment of life is a continuum of micro seconds, reality becomes more the illusion. The fantasy before and the memory after is larger and carries more weight because of the additional time involved.
