We know that today we are divorced from nature to a degree that is threatening our existence. We also know that those sensual animal qualities that characterized our existence, when we were embedded soulfully in nature, have departed and we long for their return... We appear to be in a soul process of overcoming solidity and entering a new status of soul-word in which the animal, the sensual, and the wild are indeed returning, but at a totally new and unheard-of level of complexity in consciousness.

This is the story of four young friends whose routines are disrupted one day by an intrusion of four possible futures into their Present, thus shaping their lives over time, and finally becoming their actual future, but in ways that none of them could have predicted.
The making of this book reflects a similar process in the author. A possible future, in the shape of a dream, interested with the author's Present, and his life began to alter in quite unexpected ways, as the dream slowly manifested into what became, finally, his actual future, the record of which is this story
Thus the...

Imagining this or that future as a way of generating hope and "hopeful action," far from moving us towards any desired outcome, is simply occluding our eyes from the reality that is right in front of us, daily. Our time is incredibly uncertain and our lives are dominated by catastrophic thinking, with fear more and more determining out real actions and outcomes, on the local or world scale. If we finally drop all pretense that hope can have any bearing on the future, we must then face the level of fear running freely through world affairs today and equally we must face the fact that...

Our modern age of nihilism, or meaninglessness, reaches its end when the bearer of meaning, Being, gradually concealed from view over the passage of centuries, is now completely forgotten. Objects are now understood only in terms of their efficiency and ordered-ness, or as mere enhancements to our lives, but never as "portals" to the infinite depths of Being. Three friends confront this 'catastrophe' and each undergoes a moment of inception in which a new configuration of the world becomes possible. Two of them attempt to bring this new configuration into actuality via an art form, while the...

This book belongs with my other autobiographical story, The Imperative. Both books "remember" the preparation required to shape a suitable mouthpiece for the unknown future. The "destructive" energies that were evoked, along with the wisdom carried by those energies, constitute the inner meaning of a nuclear blast, i.e., from the objective psyche's point of view. If these enormous energies are held "within," i.e., consciously, then the psyche can begin to reveal its deeper telos. This intentionality is explored in depth in The Imperative (see my essay, The Bomb as World Destroyer) while, in...

This book concerns my encounter with voices, occurring in 2005, as I was sitting at my desk in a familiar but uncomfortable condition. My entire body had heated up, a sure sign of a creative phase that required some artistic output. I did not know what form it would take. As I sat there, in a kind of stew, I began to hear voices. Two voices were in conflict. They identified themselves as John and Buster and, as I began to record their vigorous dispute, to my surprise another voice joined in, or emerged from this dispute. Her name was even more surprising-Sigrid ... Together they took me ever...

Modern consciousness, in the West, is structured as two domains: ordinary consciousness and visionary experience, inspiration, or what I call here, living thinking. Over centuries we have learned to privilege ordinary consciousness exclusively and the domain of living thinking has slipped into oblivion. Yet, the upheavals of cultural transformation, or paradigm shifts, always seem to originate in inceptive moments, when living thinking appears or breaks through a threshold into the ordinary consciousness of certain individuals. These people are then "given" the task of bringing new meaning...

There is today a surfeit of cultural practices, oriented towards the posited future, that merely reflect personal beliefs or desires, or are utopian or, as we know through terrorism, are destructive in character ... We now need another way to address the future, the future in its character of being always unknown and yet REAL This future requires a corresponding method; a cultural practice that is synchronized to the quality of the future as unknown yet real, and at the same time participates in its coming-to-be. This book is an attempt to "spell out" such a method. (from the preface)
