Sean FitzGerald, commissioned a British subaltern at sixteen, joins an illustrious regiment under a great commander and serves in the American Revolution. The theme of the story is the Revolution, as seen from the perspective of a young British officer. Sean meets military leaders of the day and participates in events of the war. The book is about the time, and the men and women who lived in the tumult and terror of that very long war. It is about duty, honor, and bravery, and the cost of war.

This is the continuing story of Sean FitzGerald, a young British subaltern, in the wake of the historic defeat of the King's army at Saratoga- Sean travels with the Convention Army to Boston and beyond, rides with the Green Dragoons and Simcoe's Rangers, and takes part in some historic battles. As General Cornwallis surrenders to General Washington at Yorktown, Sean is faced with a new and difficult challenge which he must meet and a choice he must make. That choice defines the man he has become.
