Samantha and Ben appear to be the ideal couple until Ben drops the bombshell that he wants a divorce. A shattered Samantha seeks help to get through the emotional turmoil and discovers the book Divorce with Dignity. She reads chapters while going through the various stages of divorce, following some advice and ignoring other counsel.

As a young boy about to enter school, Bobby Anderson discovers Fred Rogers and his neighborhood and decides to emulate him. In order to instill a love of baseball in his son, Bobby's father introduces him to the game via the great Roberto Clemente. Later in school, Bobby is led to George Romero and the fun of movie making. Finally, in high school he finds Andy Warhol while studying humanities. Along the way, Bobby and his family fight intolerance and bullying as Bobby channels these heroes, learns compassion and tolerance.
