There were many favorite places to go in Yellowstone including day trips to Fishing Bridge, Yellowstone Lake and the Yellowstone River as well as weekend trips to Old Faithful, the geysers, thermal pools and Mammoth Lodge. The best of all was the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.

In the autumn of 2009 there was a 90 year record breaking freeze in the town of Sheridan, WY and in the Big Horn Mountains nearby. In May of 2010 three feet of snow was dropped in town and more in the mountains delaying the start of the fishing season by three weeks. During those three weeks and for several Wyoming was drenched with slow soaking rains that flooded towns and filled reservoirs to over flowing. On a day in June the news went out that a new buffalo calf had been born at the reserve in the middle of town. This author/photographer headed out for some photos and ended up being there just at the right time to photograph the little calf's first adventure.

In the summer of 2010 the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming the fisherpersons had a late start on the fishing. There had been a heavy, wet snow late in May and then slow, steady rains. When we did get to the stream it was barren with the exception of the willows and one small flower. That changed and this book is about that change.

Returning to my home state of Wyoming after retiring from teaching elementary school was a joy for me. It has been thrilling to photograph Wyoming landscapes and the native flowers I grew up with. Catching the big fish was a highlight of the summer. There is a saying that God takes a vacation in Wyoming. I have never lived where there were so many turkeys in town and I'm not talking about your neighbor, the gal on the phone in front of you, or the guy who is blocking your driveway But in the town that I live now there are turkeys everywhere Some are taller than the cars which stop to let them cross. When someone beeps their horn it makes them run back and forth on the road, confused about which way to go.

In this book I have shared photos and stories about 4 bird species that I was fortunate to capture on film in 2010. Upon returning to my beloved Wyoming I began taking walks along the trails in this new part of the state. In the first year I introduced my new husband to birding and we identified over 60 species some that were new and delightful to see like the black crowned night heron on his birthday and a pair of wood duck and then the female wood duck with her ducklings that we watched all summer.
