This is a true story of two young lovers who "made the papers" in 1880. In June of 1879, George Mizer was shot in the back while plowing his corn field. His nephew, Billy Martin, was arrested and tried for first degree murder. Billy had to wait 6 months in jail before his trial began. During this time, he and Margaret Wilson, the Sheriff's 16 year old niece who fed the prisoners, fell in love. This courtroom drama set in southwest Missouri was perhaps the most interesting murder trial and love story of the times to come out of Missouri during this era.
