This book has been written because God really wants us to know Him. Just like you have to spend time with friends in order to find things that you like to do together, you have to spend time with God so that you can get to know Him. God is our Heavenly Father. He wants us to believe in Him and He wants us to believe that He knows what is best for our lives.
