Two young 19th Century men seeking financial success try hunting for Gold and then Whaling. Both become whaleship captains. Along the way they meet and marry each other's sisters. One is shipwecked on the Siberian Coast, saves his crew, spends the winter with the Russian military and is rescued by the other the following spring.
