You meet a tiger as Amba opens, are with him when he's captured and brought to an American zoo and when he escapes, and are with him as he finds ways to live on a land that's not familiar to him.

For ten years Pontius Pilate ruled the province of Judaea for Rome. The records of his rule two thousand years ago take up a scant two or three pages and do little more than list his official acts. Governor in Judaea elaborates on them and dramatizes them by putting them in the context of his thoughts and his private life, which are wholly invented, for the records do not speak of them.

Again from Sunshine Road consists of more than a hundred poems written from 1998 to 2013. They're in traditional verse, which can include rhyme and given forms such as the sonnet. The subjects vary widely - a scene in the Paris metro, a polling place on election day, a garden in the desert, for instance - but many of the poems deal with the part of New Mexico that borders on old Mexico. They evoke the landscape and the life of those who dwell in it.
