This book is concerned with exploring the concept of linguistic foregrounding on pragmatic and functional bases. It shows how writers, in general, and poets, in particular, employ language via making use of different linguistic figurations to engender a sense of defamiliarization and foregrounding. This study, moreover, shows that the pragmatic aspects of meaning should be borne in mind when we interpret texts or discourses. Thus, I hope that students and researchers of linguistics, especially those of pragmatics, benefit from this book.
