Roi, a young flock guardian dog, is a gift from the shepherds at Bethlehem to the Messiah baby and his family. Roi guards and nurtures the holy family as they flee Judea for Egypt. Roi subsequently returns with Joseph to Judea where they encounter the ongoing "Slaughter of the Innocents" being perpetuated by King Herod. The resultant escape from Judea with a large group of the survivors from Herod's terror calls for Roi to exhibit his nurturing nature as well as his guardian abilities.
