Ellen Reids doesn't feel she's a normal thirteen-year-old. She's always felt she was different from everyone else in a very unsatisfactory way. Having an emotionally and sometimes physically abusive best friend doesn't help her feel any more normal. But normal and happy is what she wants even if that means ending her friendship.
