Christianization of marriage in Iceland c. 1200-1600 is about the change in what constituted a legal marriage. Court proceedings and marriage contracts are studied to illustrate new understanding of property rights and gender relations. Christian marriage contracts became an agreement between families, with the couple at its centre. This meant also that a new gender identity was to be established.
