Four prose epics from the 15th century ascribed to Elisabeth von Nassau-Saarbrucken are examined here from a variety of perspectives: transmission, narratology, cultural semantics. The reconstruction of the narrative strategy is bound up with the question of the way the epics interrelate in the historical context. With recourse to culture-anthropological approaches and reference to writings of a scholarly/academic nature and the illustrations in the manuscript, an attempt is made to point up the differential features of various kinds of text.
