Die narrative Struktur kann in der Grossepik des 12. Jahrhunderts eine interpretationsleitende Funktion haben. Diese These wird in einem erzahltheoretisch neu fundierten Versuch auf die fruhere mittelhochdeutsche Grossepik angewendet. Anhand des -Strassburger Alexander-, des -Herzog Ernst B-, des -Konig Rother- und ausgewahlter Episoden der -Kaiserchronik- erforscht der Autor Bauformen, narrative Strukturen und Korrelationsprinzipien. Ergebnis ist eine wesentlich neue Sicht der Literarizitat mittelhochdeutscher Epik vor 1180/90.
