None of Wieland's poems was more enthusiastically celebrated by his contemporaries than his verse poem Oberon, a work situated between the worlds of romance and the classical epic.

The present volume presents the Oberon poem exactly as it first appeared more than 230 years ago. In addition, the volume includes contemporary essays, dialogues, translations, poems, and critical reviews by Wieland.

The Critical Apparatus Volume 9.2 documents the historical provenance of all the authorized editions of Wieland's works included in Text Volume 9.1. It includes a detailed bibliographic catalog of the printings and manuscripts that were used and consulted for comparison, elucidates the genesis of the works and their underlying sources, and provides a catalog of variants, a commentary review, commentary on individual passages, and an index of names.

The Gottingen philosopher Michael Himann (1752-1784) has been the subject of considerable attention from historians of philosophy due to his materialistic positions. He conducted an extensive correspondence with friends and colleagues, including Christian Garve, Christian Konrad Wilhelm Dohm, Franz von Irwing, and Jakob Mauvillon. Himann's recently discovered legacy now makes possible an extensive documentation of this correspondence.
